THE BLUE DIAMOND
SUMMARY
Two days after Christmas Dr. Watson went to Holmes's
house to greet him. There was a hat on a chair. Holmes explained he had got it
from the doorman at the Baker Street Hotel, Mr. Peterson. He had found the hat
and a dead goose in the street after an incident between a tall old man and a
young man. The goose's left leg had a ticket which said “For Mr. And Mrs. Henry
Baker” and the letters H.B were in the hat, too. Peterson took the goose for
his dinner, but soon he came back to Holmes's house because he found a diamond
inside the goose. Holmes said that it was the Countess of Moncar's blue
diamond. It had dissapeared a week before from her room in the Cosmopolitan
Hotel. John Horner was repairing a window in the room when the jewell dissapeared.
So, he was supposed to be the thief. Holmes thought that they had to find Henry
Baker as soon as possible, so, he decided to put an advertisement in all the
evening newspapers. At 7 O'clock a tall old man and Dr. Watson were at Holmes's front door, they came in and upstair
together. The man was Henry Baker. Holmes explained to him that they found his
hat and his goose in the street, and that they had a new goose for him. Henry
Baker felt happy just for having a new goose to eat, so Holmes thought that he
wasn't the diamond thief. Before Henry Baker left Holmes's house he said the goose were from
the goose club of a pub called The Alpha. Holmes decided to go toThe Alpha with
Dr. Watson. At The Alpha they talked with the owner of the pub, Mr. Windigate,
he said that the geese cames from Mr.
Breckinridge, Holmes and Dr. Watson went to visit him. After a hard talk with
Mr. Breckinridge, he said to them that the geese came from Mr Oakshott. When
they were leaving the shop, a lot of noise came from Mr. Breckinridge and a little weak man. Mr. Breckinridge said to the little man that
he had sold all the geese and had not more information about it. Holmes talked
to the little man and said he knew everything about the goose with a black tail
he was looking for. They went to talk to 221B Baker Street, the Holmes's house.
The little man's name was James Ryder, and he was the assistant manager of the
Cosmopolitan Hotel, the man who put in prison John Horner. When Holmes began
talking to Ryder, he broke and told how he has stole the diamond and put it in
a goose. Ryder was crying, he told Holmes that he wouldn't be a thief anymore,
“Please, don't call the police” cried Ryder. So, in the end, Holmes decided to
let Ryder ran away, because, in the end, Ryder wouldn't be a thief anymore, and
without him there wasn't witness to say Horner was the thief. Holmes had found
the solution of the crime one more time, and he felt happy.
